Speaking to Native Speaker is a program in SMK BOPKRI I Yogyakarta to build students’ confidence in speaking English. This program also aims to prepare the students to have communication with foreign customers in their future work fields. There, we invited Mr. Liam Rearden, from England, as the guest teacher of English subject. The program was conducted in three sessions. The first session was in XI Logistics Management class on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 11.25 am – 01.10 pm. The second session was in X Film Production class on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 08.40 – 10.25 am. The third session was in XI Accounting and Institutional Finance class on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 10.50 am – 12.35 pm. It was fun to have introduction to Mr. Liam Rearden. The students practiced speaking English to ask questions about Mr. Liam Rearden and his culture in England. It was so amazing since the students should speak in English. It was hard at first, but they could do it, then.
For grade XI, the students also had job interviews with him. It was frightening for students since they should answer each question in English. However, it was so satisfying when they did it. They’re so proud that they had an experience to have job interviews in English. Besides that, they also had Guessing and Counting Price games. This game checked the students’ listening skill in guessing numbers. In this game, the students should count the prices given by Mr. Liam Rearden and mention the results. For grade X, there were also a game. It was Spelling Bee game. The students were divided into four groups. Each group sent a representative to come in front of the class to spell the words mentioned by Mr. Liam Rearden. When a group had wrong spelling, another group could take the opportunity to spell the words. The winner was the group who could spell correctly at most. It was challenging for everyone since there were unfamiliar words mentioned. At the end, Mr. Liam Rearden gave us some tips and tricks to have confidence in speaking English. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, just try to speak up in English.
